Young People These Days

In the past month I've had the privilege twice to look for volunteers, and work with, young people.

In my parish role we were looking at setting up a Youth Mass.  A place where we would emphasise the  talents and enthusiasm of the young people of our parish.

There are two distinct sides to our parish, so we approached the youth club in both sides separately.
I am amazed at how easily they volunteered.  They were happy to sing.  To stand up and speak, to be seen and to be counted.

Seriously, I think they are a hell of a lot more talented and cooler than I ever was at that age.

And yes, in both cases they performed excellently.

  1. John, I cannot comment about working with young people as such but believe we were all similar except for our different lifes issues.I had just turned ten years old when the Bloody Sunday atrocity occurred. It was just the other day I first spoke in detail of personal memories to my partner.Thankfully we werent effected as a family but it was the loosing of our childhood by what followed. This was really nothing compared to what many others lost.We all develop coping or survival techniques depending on our situations. The young are great and face difficulties today ,Id rather not have. Its great to see people like yourself volunteering on teir behalf. At all stages in life its good to have support.Best of luck to you all in this.
