Community Work

I tend to sometimes have trouble saying 'no'.  This has led to me getting involved in a number of local organisations.  Sometimes I really enjoy this work, and sometimes it drives me just a leetle bit bonkers.

The Community Council (On Facebook)
I live in a rural parish where there is a good sense of community.  I am now beginning my sixth year of serving on the community council, and look forward to stepping down at the end of this one!
The time commitment varies from time to time.  Sometimes we have big projects on that require a lot of work, and sometimes it is a lot easier.
If you go to the site above then you will see some of our projects listed.  One of the first we took on when I joined was to build a playground in Killeagh -this required getting planning permission, local support, and lots of funding.  It was a huge success and pretty much began a run of successful projects.
So, coming up to the end of it - I'm happy to be involved, but will be delighted to hand over to a new committee!
I just realised that I now have less than 6 months left on this committee.  6 years is a long time to serve - time for some new ideas & some new energy.

Glenbower Wood (On Facebook)
Just at the edge of Killeagh village is a lovely wood called Glenbower.  Part of the wood is owned by a company that holds the territory in trust for the local community.
I am part of the organising committee, and we do jobs such as fundraise to cover ongoing maintenance and the like.
One very big project coming up is to make a lake.
Yup.
For most of the last century the wood held a lake, and it was drained in the late 80s.  We plan to reinstate the lake.  A lot of research has gone into it, and the time has come to put all this research to work. Put up or shut up!

Here's a few photos I took while walking the woods with my family.
